This is that rare time when time (almost) stands still. Hot, leisurely–if you are blessed to take time off.

Today I embrace “kairos” vs. “chronos”–or, being present and alive to what is right here in front of me now.

(Maybe not a bad way to live even back on the job?)

Quote from Dr. Virginia Axline, Dibs in Search of Self, Copyright 1964

“…when horizons grow or diminish within a person the distances are not measurable by other people. Understanding grows from personal experience that enables a person to see and feel in ways so varied and so full of changeable meanings that one’s self-awareness is the determining factor….every individual does have his private world of meaning, conceived out of the integrity and dignity of his  personality.” (Page 20).

I would add to Dr. Axline’s strong humanism the Christian’s shared inner life with his or her Creator and Present Lord Jesus by the indwelling Holy Spirit. As those in Christ (with Christ also in us) our self-awareness can be constantly informed by the One Who knows us best and loves us most–Who has even invited us into this closeness.

You tell us You live in our bodies.

That, when I look at my skin, I see

Housing for the Eternal Spirit of God.

That One Who spoke worlds

Into being,

Who made the cosmos,

Lives right here in these limbs

On this day

In May, 20115.

I cannot wrap my mind around

The Reality.

It is too big.

Too small too.
